According to statistics, South Africa have close to a 5% submission to education facilities for children with special needs. Little Gems are the only residential special needs care in the Gauteng province and are hoping to expand our centre by partnering with private and corporate sector and become an example to other NGO’s so that we encourage empowerment of children living with disabilities in South Africa.
According to a 2014 report by Statistics South Africa, 7.5% of the country’s population experiences some sort of disability. That translates into a documented 2.8 million people. The question of how these individuals could be empowered still remains.
